Hello {% assign name = {{${first_name}}} | split: ' ' %} {{name[0] | default: "there"}},
Couriers who deliver with Caviar on a bicycle make up a significant portion of the overall fleet.
We appreciate the energetic and resourceful people who zoom around the city to bring diners their favorite meals hot and on time. That’s why we’re writing today to talk about the importance of riding safely and following local traffic laws.
According to {{custom_attribute.${bike_coalition_name}}}, wearing a helmet while riding is one of the most important things a cyclist can do to remain safe on the road. Some other helpful safety tips are:
- Wearing bright clothing or a reflective jacket or vest increases your visibility- especially at night.
- Front and rear lights on your bike send off a bright, pulsing flash that can help drivers see you in decreased visibility.
- Using hand signals allows other riders and drivers to know when you plan to stop or turn.
- Planning your ride to take a route with as many bike lanes as possible can help you avoid less safe roads.
- A bell can call the attention of pedestrians, drivers, and other cyclists who may not see you.
Following local traffic laws is an important part of remaining safe. Did you know that riding on the sidewalk is illegal in most municipalities? It is also good to know that bikes are considered vehicles in many cities, and are expected to follow the same laws as cars including:
- Obeying all traffic signs and signals: stop signs, red lights, pedestrian crossing zones.
- Riding with traffic. You can be ticketed for riding against traffic.
